John Gray & Co. Community Fund 2025: Celebrating Local Projects

We are proud to announce the August recipients of the 2025 John Gray & Co. Community Assistance Programme. Three outstanding local organisations who are helping to make Holywood and Bangor a stronger, more inclusive places to live.

Every year, our community funding provides small grants to support grassroots initiatives that foster wellbeing, connection, and resilience. Once again, the response was incredible. We received applications from a wide range of community groups, each with inspiring ideas and a shared passion for making a difference.

After careful consideration, we are delighted to share that August’s successful applicants are:

Redburn Loughview Community Forum – Project Seedling

Redburn Loughview Community Forum will use their award to develop Project Seedling, an ambitious sensory-friendly community garden in Holywood.

This space will feature accessible raised beds, sensory planting, and inclusive design to welcome people of all ages and abilities. Tailored for neurodivergent individuals, disabled residents, older adults, and families, the garden will be a haven for wellbeing and community connection.

The project also champions sustainability with rainwater harvesting, composting, and pollinator-friendly planting, modelling climate action in a hands-on, practical way.

North Down YMCA – Timeless Treasures Afternoon Dance

North Down YMCA is tackling loneliness and isolation among older people with their Timeless Treasures Afternoon Dance.

This joyful event will bring together people aged 55+ from across Bangor, including those from care homes and community groups, for an afternoon of music, laughter, and connection. With live entertainment, refreshments, crafts, and games, the event will provide not just a great day out, but an opportunity to build new friendships and strengthen social ties.

It’s a simple idea with a powerful impact: helping older people feel valued, included, and supported.

Holywood Men’s Shed – Enchanted Garden Refurbishment

The much-loved Enchanted Garden in Redburn Country Park is about to get a new lease of life thanks to Holywood Men’s Shed.

Originally developed in 2014, the Enchanted Garden has become a unique outdoor space enjoyed by families, children, and community groups. With its sensory play features, treehouse, and woodland trails, it has inspired countless adventures and memories.

Funding will support a refresh of the space, with new planting, sensory equipment, and accessibility improvements, ensuring the garden continues to enchant for years to come.

Thank You to All Applicants

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who applied to the John Gray & Co. Community Assistance Programme 2025. The range of applications reflected the creativity, commitment, and compassion that define our local community.

While not every project could be funded this year, we are proud to support the three initiatives above and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will bring to Holywood and Bangor.

Applications for the 2025 Fund are now closed. Details of future funding the will be announced in due course – keep an eye on our webpage for details.

Together, we are growing stronger, more connected communities. 🌱
