At John Gray & Co. Funeral Directors, our mission extends beyond providing compassionate support during life’s most difficult moments, we are equally committed to nurturing the life and light that community initiatives bring.
Through our Community Assistance Programme, we are proud to celebrate and support four remarkable local organisations who are making a real difference on the ground: ROC Northern Ireland, Camphill Community Holywood, First Bangor Presbyterian Church, and Bangor Parish Church.
ROC Northern Ireland – Easing the Back-to-School Burden
ROC’s School Uniform Project – Bangor addresses a challenge many families face: the rising cost of school uniforms. Working in partnership with Orchardville and Ards & North Down Borough Council, ROC provides access to quality, pre-loved uniforms for local families.
This initiative not only eases financial stress but also promotes dignity, reduces waste, and strengthens community ties. Our grant is helping ROC improve their outreach through new promotional materials and better display infrastructure, making this invaluable resource even more accessible.
Camphill Community Holywood – Growing Connection and Independence
Camphill Community Holywood supports adults with learning disabilities through residential care and meaningful day opportunities. Their Garden Outdoor Project aims to transform their outdoor space into an accessible and engaging environment.
With the help of our funding, Camphill will install ergonomic gardening tools, inclusive seating, and interactive outdoor activities. This project is about so much more than a garden, it’s about creating moments of connection, independence, and joy.
First Bangor Presbyterian Church – A Garden for All
In the heart of the city, First Bangor Presbyterian Church is cultivating more than plants. Their upcoming Community Garden Project is designed to be an “oasis”, a shared, welcoming space for anyone seeking rest, connection, or simply some time outdoors.
Thanks to our grant, the church will be able to install two picnic benches and a proper base, encouraging people to gather, share a meal, or enjoy a quiet moment. It’s a simple idea with a profound impact.
Bangor Parish Church – Compassion in Action
Lastly, we are thrilled to support Bangor Parish Church and their Harbour Community Support & Wellbeing Project. Operating weekly, Harbour offers:
- A preloved clothing store
- A social supermarket providing £25+ worth of groceries for just £5
- A growing sports club for physical wellbeing
- And, most importantly, a welcoming space for conversation and connection
Our funding will help replenish essential food and clothing supplies over the summer and autumn, with a focus on underwear and school uniforms for families in need.
Investing in Hope, One Project at a Time
Each of these initiatives , whether planting gardens, stocking pantries, or sharing uniforms, reflects the spirit of what our Community Assistance Programme stands for: dignity, support, and belonging.
To all of the volunteers, coordinators, and community champions behind these projects: thank you. Your compassion and creativity inspire us, and we are proud to support your efforts to make Northern Ireland a better place for all.
